Dawson Teacher's Union

Considering the crisis in public services, exacerbated by budget cuts and restrictions over the past year;

Considering the government’s unprecedented attacks on countervailing powers within society, including unions;

Considering the CAQ’s ideological obstinacy on these issues, despite its loss of legitimacy and popular support; Considering the CSN’s Stand Together (Faire front) campaign;

Be it resolved that the Dawson Teachers’ Union Executive Council demand of the current government:

  • the abandonment of all authoritarian, repressive, and anti-union bills currently under consideration, notably Bills 1, 3, and 9, and the withdrawal of Law 14 (Bill 89);

  • a massive reinvestment in the social safety net, including, starting this spring, the lifting of budget restrictions for colleges and a reinvestment for the 2026-2027 school year that reverses the effect of last year’s cuts. Be it further resolved that the Dawson Teachers’ Union Executive Council ask the other official political parties of Quebec:

    • to commit to withdrawing all authoritarian, repressive, and anti-union bills, and to reinvest heavily in Quebec’s social safety net at the beginning of a new term;
    • to support union and popular movements in their struggle for social justice.

Be it further resolved that the Dawson Teachers’ Union Executive Council immediately begin escalating pressure tactics potentially culminating in a social strike – opposed to austerity as well as to the government’s anti-union and anti-social attacks – in collaboration with the CSN and its allies.
